30 PIECES OF SILVER (Part 3) • ”Trading Jesus for Safety”

• This Series: We’d all like to think we’re nothing like Judas the betrayer, who traded Jesus for thirty pieces of silver. An honest look at our hearts reveals, however, that we all have things we trade for Christ every day. Whether it’s comfort, power, control, or some other idol, we all make our exchanges. As we approach Easter, this series invites us to repent and treasure Christ above every idol and temptation.

 

• This Week: Following Jesus has never been easy. In our post-Christian American culture, it is not popular to follow Jesus. Increasingly, believers are facing opposition, ridicule, and rejection for their faith. Therefore, it is all too easy to quietly trade Jesus for safety. Every one of the disciples did this in the face of arrest in the Garden of Gethsemane. Peter did this again when he was accused of being a disciple of Jesus. When facing opposition, what will trigger the Judas in you?

 

Key Phrase: “My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.” Matthew 26:42

• This Week: Too many believe a false premise that following Jesus means being comfortable. N.T. Wright said, “Following him will cost everything and give everything. There are no half-measures on this journey.”

• This Week: What happens when Jesus doesn’t live up to our expectation? When the premise or motivation of our faith is wrong, we will eventually be disappointed with God. Whether we follow Jesus to get what we want or trade our love for Jesus to get what we want, both are dead ends.

• This Series: We embrace THIS. We live THIS out. When THIS happens, everyone benefits. When THIS happens, God’s blessings flow. THIS opens doors and solves problems. THIS inspires others to do THIS too. THIS is who we are. THIS is What We Do!

 

• This Week: We will look at three levels of irrational generosity. We need to examine where we are and where we need to be.

 

Key Phrase: “Generous people plan to do what is generous…” Isaiah 32:8 (NLT)

• This Week: When children are little, they have a hard time sharing their toys with others. They often get upset when someone starts playing with a toy they have touched in a long time. Our that’s mine! attitude often remains hidden in each of us when we are older. Changing our mindset positions us to begin living in abundance.

 

Key Phrase: “You give them something to eat.” Mark 6:37

THIS IS WHAT WE DO (Part 1) • ”Put God First”

• This Series: We embrace THIS. We live THIS out. When THIS happens, everyone benefits. When THIS happens, God’s blessings flow. THIS opens doors and solves problems. THIS inspires others to do THIS too. THIS is who we are. THIS is What We Do!

 

• This Week: When we put God first, all sorts of things begin to fall into its proper place. When we put God first, He begins to bless us like never before. God put us first by prioritizing our salvation. Because of what He did, THIS is what we do.

 

Key Phrase: “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse…and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing…” Malachi 3:10
